The Adult day care is a program for health related activities that is made for handicapped individuals and for the elderly. The Adult day care open from Monday to Friday in the day hours, in a joyful, supportive, cheerful environment. Healthy meals are a part of the adult day care program, which include afternoon snack and any other special meals are also included.
The adult day care can either be private or public, non-profit or for-profit.
These are the two primarily reasons for adult day care programs:
- Allowing older elderly to leave their home for social and mental stimulation
- To give free time to the caregivers to simple take much needed time off or relax
According to National Adult Day Provides Association (NADSA), there are currently over 4500 adult day care center across the country. There is a rise for adult day care in the past 20 years, corresponding to the elderly population.
Good candidates for adult day care are older adults who are:
- Could be cognitively challenged or physically challenged, however, do not require 24 supervision
- An elderly that want friendship and functional assistance
- In early stages of Alzheimer
The potential participants need to be mobile with possible aid with a wheelchair, cane or a walker.
